Sweet nostalgiya: in the narrow window of time circa YT’s high-school youth, on the 60-70s seam, no one was channeling adolescent lovelornness better, and to a greater degree of popularity, than Valery Obodzinsky, born on this date in 1942. There could be no meaningful high-school party sans his sorrowful, suffering voice floating through the sweat-soaked dark air. He disappeared quickly from the grand stage of Soviet estrada, having  descended into the underworld of alcoholism and drug addiction, and died while still in his fifties. But oh, for how many millions of teenage couples slow-dancing in the dank semi-darkness of high-school’s assembly hall his voice had sounded the sweet choral of hormonal harmonizing.
