WHAT DO MOST RUSSIANS KNOW ABOUT CANADA?

That it is the part of America where people play hockey and, in the case of its male populace, cut their hair after the “kanadka” fashion (common Russian term for buzzcut). That, also, as per the popular song by the guitar-strumming late Soviet-era bard Alexandre Gorodnitsky — “Over Canada the sky is blue,/ Slanted rain in-between the birches./ Although it does look like Russia,/ Still, it ain’t no Russia” (“Nad Kanadoy nebo sine, mezh beryoz dozhdi kosyye. Khot’ pokhozhe na Rossiyu, tol’ko vsyo zhe ne Rossiya”) — it ain’t no Russia… Not much beyond that.
