“Normal People Don’t Live Like This,” by Dylan Landis

Dylan Landis is a writer of remarkable talent and grace. Her poignant, keenly intelligent prose carries you along, aloft, on smooth waves of accelerated sentences; on rolling tides of elevated language. Readers of the SLS contests past still remember, even through the hazy scrim of time, thousands of fiction entries later, the heady sense of wonderment and discovery they had upon coming across her story Rana Fegrina, back in ’02. As the contest’s 2nd-place winner, she came with us to St. Petersburg that year.

Now her first book of linked stories, Normal People Don’t Live Like This, has been released, at long last, and is receiving the accolades it so richly deserves; and we couldn’t be happier.

Here’s the abbreviated version of the announcement: The Los Angeles Times loved Normal People Don’t Live Like This (Persea Books), the debut novel-in-stories just out from Dylan Landis. So did the New Orleans Times-Picayune, the rumpus.net, and Newsday, which named it a top-ten book of 2009. Readings (on her website: www.dylanlandis.com) coming up in DC, VA, SF and L.A.

We urge you to do yourself a favor and read her book.
